How It Works

This summer is all about your writing and your choices.

The Summer Writing Challenge is a flexible, inclusive program designed to support writers of all levels in pursuing their creative projects throughout the summer months. Whether you’re working on a novel, memoir, poetry collection, short stories, or establishing a consistent writing habit, this challenge provides the structure, resources, and community to help you stay motivated and productive.

How the Program Works

Step 1:

Choose Your Project and Goals

Participants have the freedom to select any writing project they wish to focus on. There are no restrictions on genre or format, and writers set their own goals based on personal aspirations and schedules. The primary focus is to encourage consistent progress on your chosen project over the course of the summer.

Step 2:

Engage with a Supportive Community

The program offers a private, moderated online community where writers can share their progress, exchange feedback, and support each other through the challenges of the writing process. This collaborative environment fosters accountability and inspiration.

Step 3:

Participate in Workshops and Sessions

Throughout the summer, the challenge hosts various workshops and sessions aimed at enhancing your writing skills and keeping you motivated.

  • Workshops: Designed to motivate and provide insights to help you complete your writing tasks.
  • Accountability Check-ins: Regular meetings to track progress and adjust goals as needed.
  • Open Mics: We know that reading your work is an important part of the writing process.  We are offering 6 Open Mics over the summer so that you can share your work and feel connected to other writers.
  • "Hour Stories" Sessions: Two-hour writing circles where participants generate approximately 1,000 words, using prompts to inspire creativity and overcome obstacles.(enroll.tufts.edu, bcwriters.ca)
